Intelitek will host another CRCC in collaboration with the Connecticut CSTA to attract students to explore computer science opportunities and STEM subjects
DERRY, N.H. – Sept. 26, 2018 – This fall, Intelitek and the Intelitek STEM and CTE Education Foundation, in partnership with the Connecticut Computer Science Teachers Association (CTCSTA), will launch a Cyber Robotics Coding Competition (CRCC). The competition is a virtual robotics and coding online experience for middle school students in grades 5-8 beginning in mid-October and going through early December.
Organized by Intelitek STEM and CTE Education Foundation, the CRCC is an eight-week virtual coding competition that provides students and educators with the opportunity to build STEM related skills using a cloud-based simulation platform featuring a virtual, 3D-animated robot. The CRCC is open to all middle schools in Connecticut, recognizing the importance of inclusion and diversity in STEM education.
“The Connecticut CSTA strives to engage all students in computer science experiences to foster an interest in STEM and coding early on,” said Ido Yerushalmi, CEO of Intelitek. “As part of that goal, they have found an opportunity in this collaborative effort with Intelitek to motivate students and offer them more ways to hone in on their computer science skills and STEM interests.”
New Hampshire was the first state to hold a CRCC, partnering with Intelitek in 2017. This launched an international phenomenon that has resulted in more than 60,000 students all over the world participating in similar coding events. Launching for the first time in Connecticut, the cloud-based coding platform invites students to compete in over 80 different and challenging game-like robotics missions. Students who participate in the first Connecticut CRCC will compete to win one of several prizes including the Inclusiveness Award for the school that has the highest ratio of active students participating, the Grace Hopper Award for the school that has the highest ratio of active female students participating, as well as invitations to the in-person finals where gold, silver and bronze awards for the top three team will be presented.
“We are excited to be partnering with Intelitek and bringing the Cyber Robotics Coding Competition to students here in Connecticut as a way to further engage them in computer science,” said Chinma Uche, President CTCSTA. “Coding is a valuable skill for today’s job market, but understanding how computers work is an essential form of literacy, not just for today but for the future. This competition builds a solid foundation for that literacy in our students and does it in an incredibly engaging way. It’s a wonderful opportunity for us all.”
Cyber Robotics Coding Competition is the first-of-its-kind online competition where competitors undertake their missions on Intelitek’s CoderZ Cyber Robotics Learning Environment, a cloud-based platform featuring a graphical simulation of LEGO robotics kits. The innovative, online platform has a coding interface where users between 5th and 12th grade can activate a virtual robot, or “cyber-robot,” and watch the results in a real-time simulation. The events include professional development and training for teachers and boot camp activities in which students learn and practice intensively from any Chrome computer browser. The missions are self-directed, and individual students can progress at their own pace.
